Please be an informed parent & do not be fooled by the media. The advertisements depict fresh meats, vegetables, & other ingredients, but that could not be further from the truth about what is really in commercial pet foods. (click here) Typically, the healthiest canine & feline products are not found in grocery stores, general shopping stores, or large commercial pet stores. Conversely, they are found at smaller, privately owned nutrition stores, along with holistic veterinary clinics, & there are very good reasons why they advocate for noncommercial products, including the raw diet. The goal for feeding canines should be to help them obtain maximum nutrition from as little food as possible. This can be achieved through feeding a grain-free nutrient dense diet (dry or raw). The smaller amount of bulk fed per meal, the more efficiently the stomach digests the food, & optimal digestion allows for maximum utilization of those nutrients throughout the body. Subsequently, another benefit of nutrient dense foods is the overall cost effectiveness.

During the era of The Great Depression, the pet food industry turned canines into cereal eaters because grains were/are less expensive than meat. Thus, the notion of feeding canines cereal based diets gained great popularity, & is still the choice among many people today. Now, a common replacement for grains are potatoes. However, grain & potato free foods are ideal since they are lower in carbohydrates, which canines have little to no need for if provided with a higher fat & protein diet. Biologically, canines are designed to obtain their energy needs from meat & fat rather than from carbohydrates.

Canines are not designed to eat cereal.
